About the Retreat
Our Theme for the 2021 Summer Retreat will be one of O-Sensei's teachings, so timely for us this year, as we emerge from the pandemic: TATENAOSHI 建て直し “Rebuilding”
A Safe Space for Training Together: This year's Summer Retreat will be held in the Aikido of Santa Cruz dojo building, spacious and well-ventilated. All Retreat participants must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and register in advance (no drop-ins or observers). You can register to attend all 3 days, 2 days, or 1 day of the Retreat, space permitting. For this year, we will limit participation to a maximum of 50 fully vaccinated Aikidoists, ages 13+, from within California only.
Retreat Schedule: The 2021 Summer Retreat begins Friday at 10:30 am and ends Sunday at 1:30 pm. There will be morning and afternoon classes, with evenings free. Retreat instructors Mary Heiny and Linda Holiday will teach every day, joined by guest instructors Richard Strozzi-Heckler, Penny Sablove, Matt Fluty, Nico Secunda, and Aikidoists of all levels from California dojos. Everyone is encouraged to take the training at their own pace. Each day there will be informal “Open Dojo / Community Times” to connect with other participants – talking, eating, training, and savoring our time together.

MASAKATSU: “TRUE VICTORY”
"In Aikido we are not fighting or contending to win -- we emerge victorious by not fighting. Aikido is the principle of nonresistance. It is to be victorious over oneself, victorious in accomplishing your mission in life."
– Morihei Ueshiba O-Sensei
